Geospatial Analyst

The University of Maryland Center for Environmental Science (UMCES) invites applications for the position of geospatial analyst at the Chesapeake Bay Program (CBP) office in Annapolis.  This position is in support of the CBP Partnership to inform state, regional, and local decision-making as called for in the Chesapeake Bay Watershed Agreement. Priorities for this position are set by the CBP’s Management Board and Goal Implementation Teams, with specific technical guidance provided by the GIS Team.

The successful candidate will provide geospatial support for the Chesapeake Bay Program partnership analysis efforts.  Activities will include development, management, publication, and maintenance of content (maps, data, services, applications, and metadata) for web-based CBP geospatial data portals including, but not limited to, the Chesapeake Bay Program Data Hub; oversees CBP data distribution to partners on an as needed basis; develops standards and procedures for publishing data and services; and develops web mapping applications and story maps using ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Online templates to communicate a range of Chesapeake Bay restoration and conservation issues. 

Candidates should have at least a bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 3 years of experience using ArcGIS 10.x and ArcGIS Online, preferably including ArcGIS Open Data. They should also be proficient at Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel and Access, metadata development and management, the ability to make quality maps that communicate the goals and outcomes of the Program, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment.  Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required to generate effective synthesis products for the CBP partnership.  Additional skills in the following are desired: programming in Python, R, and/or JavaScript; data visualization software programs (e.g. Insights for ArcGIS, Tableau, Qlik, Power BI); Adobe Creative Cloud (Photoshop, Illustrator); ArcGIS Server and ArcGIS Pro; and Knowledge of Federal data and metadata standards.
