The Senior GIS Specialist serves as the technical lead in the development of Geographic Information System (GIS) applications, maintaining environments, usability improvement, and integrations. Utilizes GIS techniques to provide a better understanding of various environmental and geospatial parameters in each given geographic location.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Recommend appropriate strategies in response to GIS analysis and desired outputs/deliverables. Leads the development of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning (AI / ML) enabled analysis techniques to improve the efficiency and utility of GIS analysis.
Provide maps and data sets to clients to supplement analysis.
Monitor utilization of GIS applications to plan for current and future needs. Identify areas for improvement related to GIS architecture, design, performance optimization, development process, workflows, governance, and tools/technologies.
Rely on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Works under general supervision
Develop databases for various marine environmental data types and formats. Work with related GIS software and programs to create and maintain databases and/or maps that can be combined with geographically referenced data.
Meet with users to define data needs, project requirements, required outputs, or to develop applications.
Compile geographic data from a variety of sources including deep submergences assets, ship-based observation, underwater imagery and existing maps. Analyze spatial data for geographic statistics to incorporate into documents and reports.
Provide basic training and robust documentation of procedures to end users on GIS technologies related to geocoding and web map application use for continued maintenance of GIS systems.
